What will you be learning?
The Diploma’ is a new alternative to the traditional GCSE or A level route, but keeps just as many options open. You will learn in new ways and in different environments, not just the classroom. The Diploma will give you the skills and experience that employers, universities and colleges really value. These skills include team work and creative thinking, and will help to prepare you for wherever you want to go in life. You will also develop your skills in English, maths and ICT. The Diploma could lead to many careers including those involved in care work, education, working with the young or in social work.
With a Diploma you will get at least ten days’ work experience. This is a great way to use the skills you have learnt in the classroom and experience what work is like from the inside. For example you may work in a youth club or in a n early years’ nursery. If you are interested in social work, you might assist carers in a residential home. You will also be required to complete a project of your choice, to demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have acquired and developed.
All Diploma students are encouraged to develop skills like teamwork and self management as part of the course. You will learn how to express yourself confidently and apply your knowledge and skills creatively in a real work environment.
