Welcome to our part of the on-line prospectus and thank you for considering Longfield Academy. We hope that before you make the important decision about which educational establishment you wish to join, you will come and visit us to meet our staff and students and find out as much as possible about us.

Longfield Academy is an 11-19 mixed Academy situated on a large site in a rural environment. According to OFSTED in November 2007, ‘The well managed sixth form provides a good quality of education, with a curriculum closely matched to students’ needs and consistency of practice in teaching and learning.’ We pride ourselves on how well we work together as a group of teachers, students and parents to enable you to make the best progress possible. Our partnership with Dartford Technology College at p[ost 16 level means that you can access a wide range of examination courses, enrichment activities and extra curricular opportunities that will challenge you now and help you to make a significant contribution to your community in the future.

Having been a student in our Academy we want you to have achieved the academic success and have developed the high level skills that will enable you to move on to the next phase of your life as a confident, well prepared and happy adult. As OFSTED said, ‘Students enjoy their studies and gain in maturity as they learn to manage their time and develop skills that will stand them in good stead in later life.’

As an adult studying in our school we expect that you will set high standards for yourself to achieve and for our younger students to follow. You will demonstrate through regular attendance, punctuality, self-motivation and the ability to meet deadlines the high level of reliability you bring to the workplace. You will be supported in this by your personal tutor and all of your teachers. We encourage you to make a significant contribution to the whole school as prefects and mentors and take responsibility for leading initiatives in the school.

We shall try to tailor your educational experience to match your needs and challenge you. You may be studying a range of academic or vocational courses full time in school or combining study with work experience. Our partnership with Key Training also allows access for you to work based learning courses. You will also be involved in an extensive Enrichment Programme through which you can learn and demonstrate a large variety of skills. OFSTED 2007 said that our extra curricular programme is, ‘responsive to students’ preferences. It makes effective use not only of the expertise of staff but also that of students. This creates valuable opportunities for students to exercise responsibility.’

At Longfield Academy we realise how important it is to help you prepare for the next stage of your life. We are the lead partnership school of the University of Kent, who contribute significantly to our Enrichment Programme, to ensure that you are ready to move to higher education if that is your choice and with the Connexions service to help you prepare for work.

Having considered all of your options carefully we hope that you will choose to join us and benefit from all we have to offer you whilst contributing in a very significant way to the development of Longfield Academy and our community.
